MetLife Foundation-Lender Center Internal Grant Opportunity

The Lender Center for Social Justice, with funding from the MetLife Foundation and in collaboration with faculty in the Social Differences, Social Justice Research Cluster, is offering grants for new or continuing projects to full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members with compelling projects that address the Racial Wealth Gap in the United States. The grant review committee anticipates awarding $300,000 across the accepted grant proposals, with minimum awards of $5,000 or greater. More information can be found on SU News.

The MetLife Foundation is also providing funds for a related postdoctoral fellow. Those interested in this position may refer to the job posting.

SOURCE Research Assistant Grant Program

A new cycle of grant funding is available for faculty to hire undergraduate students to participate in their research and creative projects as paid research assistants. Funding for faculty from the Syracuse Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement (SOURCE) Research Assistant Program can be obtained for research assistants to work up to three semesters (summer 2023 through summer 2024). Government Appropriations Request for Proposals

Syracuse University is eligible to submit requests for Congressionally Directed Spending to members of the New York State Congressional delegation. Potentially eligible projects include: infrastructure (equipment, buildings, renovations); community programs; workforce development; university research and creative activities; and other local initiatives. Proposals that consider historically marginalized groups are especially encouraged. Syracuse University is now soliciting proposals for Congressionally Directed funding for the FY24 federal appropriations cycle. Informational slides about the appropriations process and targets are now posted.

NEH Writing Circle

Faculty of all academic ranks are invited to sign up for the second annual Spring 2023 NEH Fellowship Writing Circle. The writing circle is primarily designed to support faculty planning to submit proposals for the 2023 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowship or Summer Stipend programs, though faculty interested comparable fellowship programs such as American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) are invited to participate. This year’s group will be led by Prof. Yüksel Sezgin. The group is generously supported by the Office of Research, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Humanities Center. Register now!

Central New York Humanities Corridor Call for Proposals

The CNY Humanities Corridor welcomes proposals by new and existing Working Groups led by faculty and academic staff at Syracuse University and the 10 other Corridor universities and colleges. More information is found in the call for proposals.

Centers and Institutes Policy

A new policy for centers and institutes has been established to provide a framework for the definition, establishment, periodic review and sunsetting of academic centers and institutes. The policy is in effect as of Jan. 1, 2023.

  • The Opportunities and Challenges of Center Grants
    Feb. 1 | 3-4 p.m. ET | 414 Bowne Hall and Zoom
    In this workshop, BioInspired and the Office of Research will cover some of the most common center-type and multi-investigator funding opportunities, including those from NSF, DoD, and NIH. We will also cover the basics of team science projects and offer insight into how to launch and maintain these collaborations successfully. Register now.
  • Information Session for DOD Military Health Services Research Symposium
    Feb. 8 | 9-10 a.m. ET | Zoom
    Join the Government Relations team and the Office of Research to learn more about the Department of Defense’s Military Health Services Research Symposium (MHSRS).  The webinar will be an opportunity to hear from former military health officials on the importance of attending MHSRS, topic areas, what makes a successful submission and how our team will support faculty at the conference. Number of Internal Nominees: 3
This program partners companies with not-for-profit organizations to serve as a pathway to technology transfer, adoption and implementation of new manufacturing processes, as well as the creation of enhanced products and services. One application is allowed per department, up to 3 departments per University.

The S-STEM Network (S-STEM-Net) will collaborate with S-STEM Research Hubs to sustain a robust national ecosystem supporting domestic low-income STEM students in achieving their career goals, while also ensuring access, inclusion, and adaptability to changing learning needs.

Updates to NSF-Required Forms
NSF has recently made enhancements to the biographical sketch and current and pending (other) support fillable PDF formats. The updated formats are consistent with the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) and are available on the NSF biographical sketch and current and pending (other) support websites.

 

New NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy Effective Jan. 25
The NIH has released new policy for data management and sharing that applies to all research, funded or conducted in whole or in part by NIH, that results in the generation of scientific data. The Syracuse University Libraries and Office of Research have developed Syracuse University guidance to aid researchers on adhering to the new policies. This guide will be periodically updated with more resources.

2023 NIH Grants Conference
Are you new to NIH grants and looking to better understand the processes and policies behind NIH funding? Or are you experienced and want to brush up on the latest policies and information? The 2023 NIH Grants Conference, a free and virtual event, will be held Feb. 1-2.
