| A message from the Chair… | | | Dear Physics Community, Greetings from Syracuse University Physics! I am feeling optimistic this summer as we are returning to 100% in person research and teaching. We have done a lot of work to make the community stronger, more productive researchers, and better learners and educators. A big thank you to all our donors out there – big and small! You have given us the gift of stability during this difficult time. Consider reading the section about what your gifts have enabled physics to do this year! Go Orange! | | | | | |

| Experiences of Indian Students during the Second Covid Wave in India “When I learned from my parents that we lost a few of our neighbors, who were like family to us as I grew up with their children, I didn’t know how to react, some part of me just couldn’t accept the truth. That incident left me with a fear of who is going to be next,” | | | | | |

| Student Highlights: January – July 2021 | | | We are pleased to take this opportunity to highlight our students in a special way. Our students represent Syracuse University Physics through their commitment to learning, dedication to research, and qualities of excellent leadership. Enjoy getting to know more about them below! | | | Graduate Student Spotlight: Hangyi Wu When Hangyi Wu arrived in Syracuse to pursue his Ph.D. in physics, he already knew what research he wanted to pursue. As a student in China, Wu had focused his undergraduate thesis on high energy physics data analysis, and he was going to continue that work in America. | | | The Return of the Physics Graduate Organization Experienced graduate students of the Physics Department today can remember a time in their PhDs when there was no such thing as a physics graduate organization. There had been one prior to their arrival, but participation had waned to such a degree that the endeavor was abandoned. | | | | | |
