| | | New Faculty Spotlight: How Two Young Physicists Bring Novel Ideas to the Department and their Fields Although the Covid pandemic froze hiring in academic institutions the world over, our department has proudly welcomed multiple talented new faculty hires in the last six months. Two of these new professors, Mirna Mihovilovic Skanata and Ivan Pechenezhskiy, have been working to build both their homes and labs from scratch after moving to Syracuse. | | | Undergraduate Bio: Leaders of the Society of Physics Students As leaders of the Society of Physics Students (SPS), Matthew Cufari ‘23 and Daniel Paradiso ‘22 have worked to build a better undergraduate community in our department. | In Memoriam: Sheldon Stone, Distinguished Professor Physics Sheldon Stone, distinguished professor of physics in the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S), passed away on October 6, after battling a chronic illness for many years. Stone was renowned as a particle physicist, and among just a handful of leaders guiding the design and use of enormous particle detectors operating at accelerator laboratories in New York, Illinois and Switzerland. | | | | | |
