From the desk of Dean Boise

Spring—at least the calendar says spring; there is still snow in the Syracuse forecast!—is the time to appreciate our alumni, your contributions to law and community, and your deep connections to your alma mater and each other. Our plan was to have our colorful Stories Book land in your mailbox this month, but with the COVID-19 public health crisis in full force, we’ve gone digital!

Please click the link below to celebrate our 125th anniversary and the achievements of Orange lawyers around the globe!

How You Can Make a Difference

Even as we have been working to help our students meet the challenges they face, safeguard their wellness, and ensure their academic success, many of you have asked how you can support our students during this difficult time. Here are some proactive ways you can help:

  • At this time, the College will use gifts to the Law Annual Fund to support students with unforeseen financial hardships due to the health emergency. If you would like to contribute for this purpose, please make a gift to the Law Annual Fund here.
  • If you know of any job openings or summer opportunities, please send them to career@law.syr.edu.
  • We’d like to hear from you. If you have ideas, feedback, or simply words of encouragement for our students, please send them to LawPreparedness@law.syr.edu and we will share them!

I am deeply moved by your concern for our students as you, too, cope with the impacts of this pandemic. Thank you.

Inclusion Network

The Law Alumni of Color Awards will be one of the highlights of the 2020 Law Alumni Weekend. Please contact Staci Dennis Taylor L’14, Chair, SULAA Inclusion Committee, at staci.dennis.taylor@gmail.com to nominate alumni of color for this year’s award program or to volunteer suggestions. The deadline for submissions is May 15.

LAST CALL … Also during Law Alumni Weekend, SULAA and the College of Law will bestow Syracuse Law Honors Awards. Do you know of a deserving Law Honors candidate? Submit nominations here or email SULAA@law.syr.edu. Thank you!

And Finally …

In closing, there is no doubt that this semester has been a challenge, but the silver lining for me is the opportunity to observe how the entire College of Law family is pulling together in unprecedented times. I admire your resilience, adaptivity, and creativity as we all grapple with radical adjustments and powerful crosswinds. I wish you all good health and optimism.
