Now Accepting Proposals for Internal Grants Program

The Office of Research has announced the pilot round for the Faculty Creative Activities and Research (FCAR) Grant Program. The purpose of this intramural grant program is to support research and creative endeavors and increase high-quality scholarly output by Syracuse University faculty. Tenured and tenure-track faculty may request $1,000–$5,000 in funding from the FCAR Grant Program

Deadline Extended: Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 5:00 p.m. (Deadline extended by one day to accommodate a scheduled update in the application system.)

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Symposium

To showcase the tremendous diversity and inclusion scholarship, administrative expertise and creative works that continuously occur across the University, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion is issuing a call for proposals to staff, students and faculty for its inaugural biannual DEIA Symposium. Presentations should be reflective of scholarly research, administrative expertise or creative works.

Limited Submission Opportunities

The following Limited Submission Opportunities were announced over the past month and are currently open. Competitions marked as “Letter of Intent” only require a short form; please submit an application as soon as you know you are interested rather than waiting for the deadline. NEW! 2023 National Science Foundation (NSF) Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program
Internal Proposal Due Date: June 20
Number of Internal Nominees: 4
An MRI award supports the acquisition of a multi-user research instrument that is commercially available through direct purchase from a vendor, or for the personnel costs and equipment that are required for the development of an instrument with new capabilities, thereby advancing instrumentation capabilities and enhancing expertise for instrument design and fabrication at academic institutions.

NEW! 2023 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipends
Internal Proposal Due Date: Aug. 1
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Eligible projects usually result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials and publications, archaeological site reports, translations or editions. NOTE: This deadline is earlier than in prior years.

NEW! W. M. Keck Foundation Science and Engineering Research Program – June 2024 Research Grants
Internal Proposal Due Date: June 15
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The Keck Foundation supports pioneering science and engineering research and the development of promising new technologies. It encourages projects that are high-risk with the potential for transformative impact.

NEW! 2023 National Endowment for the Arts Our Town
Internal Proposal Due Date: May 22
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
Through project-based funding, the program supports activities that integrate arts, culture and design into local efforts that strengthen communities.

NEW! 2023 Brain Research Foundation Seed Grant Program – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent Due Date: May 16
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The purpose of this program is to provide start-up monies for new research projects in the field of neuroscience that will likely lead to extramural funding from the NIH or other outside funding sources.

NEW! 2023 NSF ADVANCE: Organizational Change for Gender Equity in STEM Academic Professions (ADVANCE) – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent Due Date: May 31
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The goal of this program is to broaden the implementation of evidence-based systemic change strategies that promote equity for STEM faculty in academic workplaces and the academic profession. Syracuse University is only eligible for the Partnership track.

2023 Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation Grants
Internal Proposal Due Date: May 15
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The funds are designed to provide to tenure track faculty members in their first to fourth year who hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees and are engaged in basic and translational research. Applicants with current R01 funding should not apply.

Save the Date  – NSF Virtual Grants Conference

The NSF will host its spring 2023 Virtual Grants Conference June 5-8 to give new faculty, researchers and administrators insights into a range of current issues at NSF. NSF staff will provide up-to-date information about policies and procedures and specific funding opportunities and answer attendee questions. All recorded sessions will be available on-demand after the event. Registration will open May 10. Register early to secure meetings with program officers!
