Whitman is pleased to announce that Michael Paulus, Ph.D., will be the new assistant dean for advancement and external engagement. Paulus brings more than a decade of experience in higher education fundraising and leadership, most recently serving as senior associate athletic director for advancement at SU.

Following the inaugural ’Cuse50 Awards hosted on Nov. 9, honorees were welcomed to the Whitman School for an interactive Summit. Over 250 students from across campus came to learn from and network with founders and leaders from the 50 fastest-growing alumni businesses.

Five alumni and friends were honored by Whitman for exemplary service during the 2023 awards ceremony. Among those was SU Trustee and Whitman Advisory Council member Kenneth Pontarelli ’92 who received the Holtz Alumnus of the Year Award.

Four Whitman students traveled to Philadelphia to participate in the National Black MBA Conference and Exposition Case Competition. The competition allowed contestants to apply critical thinking to solve real-world business problems.

Long-time faculty member Professor David Weinbaum has been announced as the new Finance Department chair at Whitman. Weinbaum, a Harris Fellow in finance who has been on faculty since 2009, has authored many published works. His most recent research focuses on empirical asset pricing and derivatives with two articles forthcoming.

The Whitman School’s undergraduate and graduate Entrepreneurship programs were among those included in The Princeton Review’s Top 50 rankings. The undergraduate program rose from #17 to #14, and the graduate program came in at #21. 

The Fall 2023 Whitman magazine centers around experiential learning and highlights opportunities in Kenya, East Asia, London, Silicon Valley, New York City and on campus. The issue also includes School news and features on students, alumni and donors.
