Office of Research Summer Socials

The Office of Research will host its first Summer Social on June 2, 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Milton Atrium and Patio. Colleagues working on research and creative activities are invited to take a break and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks.

Limited Submission Opportunities

The following Limited Submission Opportunities were announced over the past month and are currently open. Competitions marked as “Letter of Intent” only require a short form; please submit an application as soon as you know you are interested rather than waiting for the deadline. A full explanation of the process may be found on the Office of Research website.

NEW! FY 2024 New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)
Internal Proposal Due Date: June 8
The mission of NYSCA is to foster and advance the full breadth of New York State’s arts, culture, and creativity for all. Two tracks are available under this funding opportunity: support for organizations and support for artists.

NEW! 2023 Central New York Community Foundation Community Grant Program
Internal Proposal Due Date: Oct. 6
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The Central New York Community Foundation is a public charity that receives contributions from private donors, manages them to grow over time and then distributes funding to local charities to help them thrive.

NEW! U.S. Mission to NATO -2023 Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program – Letter of Intent

The Office of the Public Affairs Advisor at the U.S. Mission to NATO is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. 

NEW! 2023 NIH Director’s Early Independence Awards – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent: June 22
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
The NIH Director’s Early Independence Award provides an opportunity for rigorous and promising junior scientists to accelerate their entry into an independent research career by forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period.

NEW! 2023 NIH Institutional Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) in Biomedical and Behavioral Research – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent: June 22
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The NIH expects the Prize Competition will identify many different approaches to DEIA that may be scalable to other institutions across the biomedical, social and behavioral research enterprise.

2023 National Science Foundation (NSF) Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program
Internal Proposal Due Date: June 20
Number of Internal Nominees: 4
An MRI award supports the acquisition of a multi-user research instrument that is commercially available through direct purchase from a vendor, or for the personnel costs and equipment that are required for the development of an instrument with new capabilities, thereby advancing instrumentation capabilities and enhancing expertise for instrument design and fabrication at academic institutions.

W. M. Keck Foundation Science and Engineering Research Program – June 2024 Research Grants
Internal Proposal Due Date: June 15
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The Keck Foundation supports pioneering science and engineering research and the development of promising new technologies. It encourages projects that are high-risk with the potential for transformative impact.

2023 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipends
Internal Proposal Due Date: Aug. 1
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Eligible projects usually result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials and publications, archaeological site reports, translations or editions. NOTE: This deadline is earlier than in prior years.

DOD Funding Opportunities Mailing List

For faculty interested in pursuing Department of Defense (DOD) funding opportunities, the Office of Federal Government Relations will send out biweekly emails with existing opportunities. In addition to current funding opportunities, the email will include information on Proposer’s Days and conferences. For those researchers not familiar with DOD funding mechanisms, the government relations team can act as a resource to you. NSF Virtual Grants Conference

The NSF will host its spring 2023 Virtual Grants Conference June 5 to 8 to give new faculty, researchers and administrators insights into a range of current issues at NSF. NSF staff will provide up-to-date information about policies and procedures and specific funding opportunities and answer attendee questions. All recorded sessions will be available on-demand after the event.

NSF Virtual Office Hour

Join the NSF’s Directorate for Biological Sciences on Wednesday, June 7, from 2 to 3 p.m. ET for a virtual office hour on broader impacts. Special guest Susan Renoe, Ph.D., executive director of the NSF-funded Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society will discuss how to make your broader impacts plans be effective and provide helpful resources to use when thinking about the broader impacts of your research.
