Office of Research Summer Socials

The Office of Research will host its second Summer Social for this year on Friday, June 21, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Milton Atrium and Patio of the Life Sciences Complex. Colleagues working on research and creative activities are invited to take a break and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks.

NEW! 2024 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grant Program – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent Due Date:

Number of Internal Nominees: 2
This program will support comprehensive community and place-based approaches to redressing environmental and climate injustices for communities facing legacy pollution, climate change and persistent disinvestment.

NEW! September 2024 National Science Foundation (NSF) Partnerships for Innovation – Research Partnerships – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent Due Date:

This program seeks to support complex, multi-faceted technology development projects that are typically beyond the scope of a single researcher or institution and require a multi-organizational, interdisciplinary, synergistic collaboration.

NEW! 2025 Searle Scholars Program – Letter of Intent

Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program supports the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment.

NEW! 2024 NSF Inclusion Across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES) – Letter of Intent

The vision of NSF INCLUDES is to catalyze the STEM enterprise to work collaboratively for inclusive change, resulting in a STEM workforce that reflects the diversity of the Nation’s population. NSF offers support for five types of projects: design and development launch pilots, collaborative change consortia, alliances, network connectors and conferences.

November 2024 NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program
Internal Proposal Due Date: Tuesday, June 25
Number of Internal Nominees: 4
This program serves to increase access to multi-user scientific and engineering instrumentation for research and research training in our nation’s institutions of higher education and not-for-profit scientific/engineering research organizations. We strongly encourage faculty to talk to their NSF program officer first to determine if the NSF Division will be receptive to an instrument request.

Funding Opportunities

The Office of Research has updated its Sponsored Funding Opportunities webpage with federal, state and foundation funding opportunities relevant to campus in a variety of topic areas. Below are the highlighted opportunities:

National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot Demonstration Projects
NAIRR Pilot Demonstration Projects are multi-disciplinary efforts involving a team of AI researchers, domain scientists and/or cyberinfrastructure specialists who are undertaking specific research challenges that innovatively use, integrate with or rely on one or more NAIRR Pilot requestable resources.
Deadline: Wednesday, July 10

Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program
This program provides exceptional scientists, writers, scholars, public intellectuals and artists an opportunity to step away from usual routines and dive deeply into a project using Harvard’s unparalleled resources.
Deadline: Thursday, September 12 (humanities, social sciences and creative arts); Thursday, October 3 (science, engineering and mathematics)

2025-26 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Competition
This competition provides opportunities for professionals, artists and scholars at all career levels. Location and eligibility vary across all awards and some awards may be restricted to certain career levels or types of scholars.
Deadline: Monday, September 16 

 

Important NSF Reminders

NSF has released a revised version of the Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG). Changes include:

• Biographical Sketch – removal of page limitation and implementation of the new Common Disclosure form.
• New Synergistic Activities Document – synergistic activities are removed from biographical sketches and are moved to a separate document.
• Mentoring Plan – mentoring plans have been expanded, now requiring a plan for graduate students. Mentoring plan templates reflecting this change can be found on the Office of Research Development website.
