| Physics Department Alumni Newsletter | | | | | |
| Dear Syracuse Physics Community, As I near the end of my first full semester as Department Chair, it’s my pleasure to take a moment to reflect upon and celebrate another all-around outstanding year in research accomplishments, educational pursuits, and building a community that is welcoming to all. As you read through this newsletter you will certainly get a sense of our recent achievements in science and scholarship at SU Physics. We’ve also shared a few fun stories that highlight a long tradition of colorful and creative characters who have left their mark on our department’s history. This year I am grateful for the current cohort of staff, students, and faculty who have been patient with me as I’ve stepped into my new role and made the transition as smooth as possible. I am happy to have the opportunity in this newsletter to share with everyone a small sample of what the members of our outstanding community have accomplished this past year. | | | | | |

| Thank you for reading if you’ve made it this far! We’ve got a lot of exciting things planned for 2025 already that I look forward to in the coming year. I hope all of you have enjoyed your own successes this past year and encourage you to send a note to us anytime you have some accomplishment or milestone to celebrate so we can share in our weekly “Good News” announcements to the department e-mail list. One more thing…as established recently, if you’ve made it this far in your reading, send an e-mail to phyadmin@syr.edu and mention the secret message of “Mrs. Jenning’s Wooden Leg”, along with providing your mailing address, and we will send you a prize! Finally, I want to conclude by offering a huge “Thank You!” to everyone who has donated to SU Physics during the past year. We have used those funds in recent years for everything from purchasing 3D printers to sponsoring students travelling to conferences. If you would like to make a donation you can follow the link below and contribute to the Physics Department General Gift Fund. Thank you again for your support and generosity, Mitch | | | | | |
