Dear Graduating Student,

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation from Syracuse University. You have worked hard to reach this milestone. We are looking forward to honoring you during Commencement weekend and welcoming those who will be here to celebrate with you. I am writing to provide you with some important details to assist with your planning.

The University’s Commencement ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome. The ceremony will include a special keynote address by our featured Commencement speaker, as well as the annual presentation of honorary degrees to special guests. Chancellor Kent Syverud and I will be part of this celebration, along with Syracuse University faculty members and Trustees.

You should also plan to attend your school or college’s dedicated Convocation, where each graduate is recognized individually by name. The dean of your school or college leads this ceremony and, in some cases, presents awards and honors to students. Immediately following your Convocation ceremony, a reception will be held where you and your guests can meet your fellow graduates and speak with those faculty and staff who have been important to you during your time at Syracuse.

Complete information about Commencement weekend, including the full schedule of Convocations and receptions and installation instructions for the Commencement app is available at commencement.syr.edu. Adding the Syracuse University Commencement app on your mobile device provides access to Commencement Weekend 2023 information and notifications. For any questions regarding the weekend, please contact the Office of Major Events at sucommencement@syr.edu or 315.443.2016.

I urge you to make plans now to celebrate the completion of your Syracuse University degree. It is a highlight of our year to honor you and welcome your family, friends and loved ones to campus.

Sincerely,

Signature of Gretchen Ritter
