Lunch for Faculty Mentors: STEM Industry Career Mentoring

Faculty are invited to have a lunch conversation with expert hiring manager and career coach Dr. Josh Henkin to learn his strategies for supporting graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in career searches in industry and government. The lunch is sponsored by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs in partnership with the Graduate School. The faculty lunch is part of a two-day series of workshops Henkin is presenting on campus. More details are available online.

Lender Center for Social Justice Faculty Fellow
Applications are now being accepted for the position of 2024-26 Lender Center for Social Justice Faculty Fellow. This fellowship supports a two-year research agenda to critically and creatively explore contemporary social issues, develop innovative approaches to these problems and implement useful and sustainable initiatives.

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Site Visit
NEH staff will be on site on Friday, March 1, for a morning presentation about NEH funding opportunities and afternoon sessions for individual consultations.

Number of Internal Nominees: 3
The U.S. Department of State and Consulate General Krakow invite proposals for programs that strengthen ties between the United States and Poland. Awards range from a minimum of $15,000 to a maximum amount of $40,000.

NEW! 2024 FuzeHub Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund – Letter of Intent
Internal Proposal Due Date: Monday, Feb. 5
Number of Internal Nominees: 3
This program partners companies with not-for-profit organizations to provide pathways to technology transfer, adoption and implementation of new manufacturing processes, as well as the creation of enhanced products and services. One application is allowed per department and up to three departments per university may apply.

The MacJannet Prize was established to recognize exceptional student community engagement initiatives. Programs must be at least two years old.

NEW! Council on Library & Information Resources (CLIR) Recordings at Risk – Letter of Intent
Internal Proposal Due Date: Monday, Feb. 26
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program helps institutions identify priorities and develop practical strategies for digital reformatting, build relationships with partners, and raise awareness of best practices. Projects must take no more than 12 months and work must occur between Sept. 1, 2024 and Aug. 31, 2025.

NEW! May 2024 National Science Foundation (NSF) Partnerships for Innovation (PFI)-Research Partnerships – Letter of Intent

Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program offers researchers funded by the NSF the opportunity to perform translational research and technology development, catalyze partnerships and accelerate the transition of discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace for societal benefit.

NEW! 2023 National Institute of Food and Agriculture Equipment Grants Program (EGP) – Letter of Intent
Internal Proposal Due Date: Tuesday, March 5
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
The EGP serves to increase access to shared-use special purpose equipment/instruments for fundamental and applied research for use in the food and agricultural sciences programs.

NEW! National Institutes of Health (NIH) Collaborative Program Grant for Multidisciplinary Teams (RM1) – May 2024 Deadline – Letter of Intent
Internal Proposal Due Date: Monday, March 25
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program supports highly integrated research teams of three to six PDs/PIs to address ambitious and challenging research questions important for the mission of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) that are beyond the scope of one or two investigators. 

2024 NIH Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG) Program
Internal Due Date: Monday, Feb. 26
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program supports acquisitions of scientific instruments for research projects. It requires three major users with NIH-funded research projects.

2024 Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Innovation Partnerships Program – Letter of Intent
Internal Due Date: Monday, Feb. 26
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
The ORAU program provides up to $4,000 to support an in-person or virtual event involving multiple ORAU member institutions that focuses on climate and environment, health equity or the future of the STEM workforce.

The Syracuse University Humanities Center has posted a list of external fellowships and residencies for humanities scholars and creative artists having spring semester deadlines.

NSF Growing Convergence Research
This program targets multidisciplinary teams who are embracing convergence research as a means of developing highly innovative solutions to complex research problems.

Minerva Research Initiative – University Research
The Minerva program promotes research in specific areas of social science and promotes candid and constructive relationships between the Department of Defense and the social science academic community.

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Discovery Event

DARPA is hosting an in-person gathering in San Francisco, Feb. 21-22, to engage with science and technology companies, universities and other research and engineering organizations interested in exploring scientific areas ripe for disruption.
