| Collaboration Event: SUNY ESF/Syracuse University Faculty Research Meeting and NSF Grants Conference Join the Offices of Research at SUNY ESF and Syracuse University on Monday, Nov. 14 for a lunch and facilitated discussion between our Vice Presidents for Research on supporting research collaborations between our institutions, then stay for a National Science Foundation (NSF) Watch Party! After lunch, we will be showing two NSF virtual grants conference sessions as research development training opportunities: - Proposal Preparation: NSF staff will review how and when to prepare a proposal, including discussion of what constitutes a project and a proposal of high quality. Presenters will discuss do’s and don’ts, recent procedural changes and various sources of NSF programmatic opportunities.
- Merit Review Process: Program Officers will discuss the philosophy of merit review and how it works, as well as ad hoc and multi-tiered reviews. Presenters will also cover the role of the program officer, timing of proposal submissions, reviewer selection, release of reviewer comments and conflict-of-interest issues related to merit review.

| Fall 2022 Research Computing Series Do you need more computing power to move your work forward? At the Fall 2022 Research Computing Series, speakers will discuss how they leverage Syracuse University’s advanced computing resources to strengthen their work. Keck Foundation Science and Engineering Research Program – December 2023 Research Grants Internal Proposal Due Date: Dec. 1 Number of Internal Nominees: 1 The Keck Foundation supports pioneering science and engineering research and the development of promising new technologies. It encourages projects that are high-risk with the potential for transformative impact. NEW! 2023 Brain Research Foundation Seed Grant Program Internal Proposal Due Date: Nov. 14 Number of Internal Nominees: 1 This program will provide funding for new research projects in the field of neuroscience that will likely lead to extramural funding and is limited to full-time assistant or associate professors. NEW! January 2023 NSF Partnerships for Innovation-Research Partnerships (Letter of Intent) Internal Proposal Due Date: Nov. 21 Number of Internal Nominees: 1 This program offers researchers from all disciplines of science and engineering funded by NSF the opportunity to perform translational research and technology development, catalyze partnerships and accelerate the transition of discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace for societal benefit. 2023 ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards Internal Proposal Due Date: Nov. 2 Number of Internal Nominees: 2 This program provides seed money to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities. The program is restricted to full-time assistant professors within two years of their tenure track appointment (Jan. 1, 2021 to Jan. 7, 2023). Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program – Letter of Intent Internal Letter of Intent Due Date: Nov. 14 Number of Internal Nominees: 1 This program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. | Funding Opportunities The Office of Proposal Support Services has updated its Sponsored Funding Opportunities webpage with federal, state and foundation funding opportunities relevant to campus in a variety of topic areas. Below are the highlighted opportunities: Water Resources Institute This program supports New York State investigators for projects that support water resource management, policy and outreach in New York. Research and Outreach Themes include: water quality, aquatic ecosystems, climate resilience, water infrastructure and water literacy and education. Deadline: Nov. 30 American Philosophical Society Franklin Research Grants Designed to help meet the costs of travel to libraries and archives for research purposes; the purchase of microfilm, photocopies, or equivalent research materials; the costs associated with fieldwork; or laboratory research expenses. Deadline: Dec. 1 Air Force Research Lab Summer Faculty Fellowship Program This program offers hands-on exposure to Air Force research challenges through 8-to-12-week research residencies at participating Air Force research facilities for full-time science, mathematics and engineering faculty. | Funder Updates | | | NSF Programs to Stop Accepting Proposals via FastLane Website The FastLane website (fastlane.nsf.gov) is scheduled to be removed as a submission option for NSF funding opportunities in January 2023. Some programs have already stopped accepting proposals through FastLane, and others will stop accepting them over the remainder of 2022. NSF has a detailed list of programs and their transition dates. | | | | | |
| New NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) Issued The new PAPPG will be effective for proposals submitted or due on or after Jan. 30, 2023. Significant changes include: - Revisions to the certification for Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR), which expands the training to faculty and other senior personnel
- Revisions to the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support formats to include certifications from the individual regarding information being accurate, current and complete.
- Requirements for use of SciENcv for the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support documents by Oct. 2023.
- Information about the use of Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) and the BAA Management System (BAAM).
- Use of Concept Outlines as a submission type and the Program Suitability and Proposal Concept Tool (ProSPCT).
