| Office of Research Updates Internal Routing and Review (IRR) Changes Preview Slides Available If you missed the April 10 “Office of Research Updates and IRR Changes Preview” session, you can now access the presentation slides and session recording on the Office of Research website. The Office of Research will share more information soon about transitioning from the Office of Sponsored Programs IRR form to the new Proposal Approval Form (PAF). Until further notice, principal investigators should continue using the IRR form for all proposal submissions. Open Source Program Office (OSPO) Data Storage Finder OSPO has developed an online tool to help Syracuse University faculty and researchers find and price data storage and sharing options. The data storage finder provides information on a wide array of available storage/sharing solutions, along with a series of questions to filter options. The tool is intended to be used by faculty to both find solutions and to help them estimate the cost of storage and sharing so that they can budget appropriately when submitting grant applications. Office of Research Staff Spotlight Claire Perrott, postdoctoral scholar, recently hosted a successful session at the Graduate School’s Future Professoriate Program annual conference. The panel, titled “Navigating the Postdoctoral Journey: Opportunities & Challenges,” included seven Syracuse University postdoctoral scholars who shared their experiences as postdoctoral scholars with University graduate students. | | | | | |

| Internal Funding Opportunities Good to Great Grant (G2G) Program This program supports faculty efforts to resubmit or prepare revised proposal submissions to the National Institutes for Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF) or other funders for proposals that previously scored favorably but were unfunded. Application deadlines will occur on a quarterly basis. Deadline: Tuesday, July 15 Summer 2025 Writing and Publishing “WRAP” Funding This internal grant opportunity is designed to support faculty in “wrapping up” their single-authored or co-authored book projects and will help offset costs associated with the final stages of publication/production, when a book will soon appear in print or on digital platforms. Deadline: Tuesday, July 15 Team Building for Large, Collaborative Grants These awards, intended for researchers with a track record of securing sponsored funding, aim to facilitate the development of collaborative research teams and support planning activities that enable the submission of a competitive research proposal to an external sponsor. Deadline: Rolling Faculty Bridge Funding Program The purpose of this program is to allow a minimal level of activity while a proven principal investigator awaits expected federal funding, e.g., to prevent loss of key postdoctoral researchers, research faculty/staff or senior graduate students or loss of research materials in the interim period. | Federal Government Updates Received a Request from a Federal Agency? If you receive a communication from a federal agency or other entity requesting changes to your existing federal agency award, please share that communication with your Office of Sponsored Program research administrator and your associate dean for research (ADR). This includes any changes to budget, scope of work or publicly facing project information for current awards, or requests for certification or verification of compliance with laws, regulations or executive orders. For pending awards, please consult with your ADR if requests for changes go beyond the usual scope of the award process. Tracking Federal Changes The Office of Research and the Office of University Counsel have been working with the Office of Government and Community Relations to assess developments related to federal government grants and contracts and have created a SharePoint page that will be updated with information as we receive it. Information about executive orders and regulatory guidance, FAQs and guidance from individual agencies are available. Congressional Advocacy with Professional Societies If you plan to participate in a congressional visit organized by your professional society, please inform Laura Kolton from the University’s Office of Government and Community Relations and follow the University Government Relations Policies. As federally funded awards are granted to the University, members of the University community should not advocate regarding specific federal awards to any elected officials. | | | | | |
