Faculty Research and Creative Excellence Celebration

The Office of Research will host a celebration for faculty who have received research and creative excellence awards on Monday, April 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Miron Victory Court. Colleagues are invited to take a break and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks.

Upcoming Research Program

New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and Beyond Proposal Writing Workshop
Session 1 – Wednesday, April 8 | noon-1:30 p.m. | Zoom
Session 2 – May 18, 19, 20 | 9 a.m.-noon | Faculty Commons (548C Bird Library)

Hosted by the College of Visual and Performing Arts, this two-part workshop is designed to support faculty of all academic ranks who plan to submit proposals for this year’s NYSCA Individual Grants for Artists or Organizations or comparable programs. Faculty considering applying for a Fulbright U.S. Scholar award in creative fields are also encouraged to join. Sarah Workman is available for questions. Register for the workshop.

Connect, Discover, Celebrate: Research Social and Postdoctoral Scholar Showcase
Friday, May 15 | 4-5:30 p.m. | Lyman main lobby and 132 Lyman Hall

Colleagues working on research and creative activities are invited to take a break and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks. Postdoctoral researchers from across campus will present their work in a poster session during the first 45 minutes of the event.

Present at the NY SMART I-Corridor Semiconductor Summit
Monday, June 1- Tuesday, June 2 | Rochester Institute of Technology Inn and Conference Center, Rochester, NY

The event will bring together industry leaders, researchers and manufacturers from across New York’s semiconductor ecosystem. Submissions are now open for Innovation Lightning Talks as part of the Summit’s Innovation Expo Day on Monday, June 1. The submission deadline is Friday, April 10. NEW! 2026 Department of Energy (DOE) Genesis Mission: Transforming Science and Energy with Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Internal Proposal Due Date:

Number of Internal Nominees: 1 per focus area
This program seeks to accelerate scientific discovery and research and development workflows using novel AI models and frameworks in the following topic areas: advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, quantum information science, semiconductors and microelectronics, discovery science and energy.

NEW! 2026 National Science Foundation (NSF) Fostering Interdisciplinary Networks to Develop Emergent and Responsive Solutions Foundry

This program supports interdisciplinary partnerships among educators, technologists and researchers to co-design and scale evidence-based, technology-driven solutions—particularly those involving AI—that strengthen K–12 learning and help build a skilled workforce.

NEW! W. M. Keck Foundation Research Program – June 2027 Grant Cycle

Number of Internal Nominees: 2 (1 per grant area)
This program seeks to benefit humanity by supporting basic science research projects that are distinctive and novel in their approach, question the prevailing paradigm or have the potential to break open new territory in their field.

2027 Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences

Internal Funding Opportunities

Good to Great Grant (G2G) Program
This program supports faculty efforts to resubmit or prepare revised proposal submissions to NIH, NSF or other funders for proposals that previously scored favorably but were unfunded.
Deadline: Friday, May 15

Team Building for Large, Collaborative Grants
These awards, intended for researchers with a track record of securing sponsored funding, aim to facilitate the development of collaborative research teams and support planning activities that enable the submission of a competitive research proposal to an external sponsor.
Deadline: Rolling

Faculty Bridge Funding Program
This program allows a minimal level of activity while a proven principal investigator awaits expected federal funding, e.g., to prevent loss of key postdoctoral researchers, research faculty/staff or senior graduate students or loss of research materials in the interim period.
Deadline: Rolling 

 

External Funding Opportunities

2027 Creative Capital Open Call
This open call seeks proposals from individual artists for new artistic works in the visual arts, performing arts, film and literature. The Creative Capital Award provides unrestricted project grants of up to $50,000 to individual artists to create new work. The new State of the Art Prize provides unrestricted artist grants of $10,000.
Deadline: Thursday, April 2

2026 Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Grants
These grants support programs that meet the unmet health care and health care-related needs of individuals, families and communities throughout New York State. Syracuse University is coordinating applications to this program to ensure alignment of applications with the Foundation’s priorities; applicants should provide project information for review by Foundation Relations to determine funder alignment.

2026 Donaghue Foundation Greater Value Portfolio
This program aims to test approaches and tools that organizations can readily use to improve the value of the healthcare they provide to their patients and communities.

Reminders

NIH SciENcv Requirement
SciENcv is mandatory for all applicants and awardees. The NIH SciENcv biosketch guide (.docx) for SU researchers includes troubleshooting and common issues.

NIH Research Security Training Requirement
Researchers must complete SU’s Research Security Training program before submitting an NIH proposal on or after May 25, 2026.

Researchers can use the Core Facilities webpage to browse the University’s collection of shared research infrastructure. Complete a brief survey to provide feedback that will guide future expansion and ensure the cores meet evolving research needs across campus.
