VPR Postdoctoral Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Work

Applications are now being accepted for the VPR Postdoctoral Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Work. Award recipients will receive $750 in research/professional development funds and present their research at the annual Postdoctoral Appreciation Dinner in September. Postdoctoral scholars from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Office of Research Updates

New Technology Transfer Associate Director
Annie Millar has joined the Office of Technology Transfer as associate director and brings a rich blend of legal, contracts and academic experience to the role. Millar will support researchers with protecting intellectual property and advancing research from the lab to the commercial market. She can be contacted at 315.443.5196 or ammillar@syr.edu.

Sarah Workman Cited for Growing Arts and Humanities Support Network
Sarah Workman, director of research development for the arts and humanities, received the 2026 National Organization of Research Development Professionals Innovation Award for her efforts in building a community of arts and humanities research development professionals. Read the full story.

 

Upcoming Research Events

Spring and Summer Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) Trainings
Registration is now open for upcoming RECR training sessions, which are designed to spark meaningful conversation across career stages from undergraduates to principal investigators. Newer researchers will gain foundational knowledge and confidence discussing research integrity, while experienced researchers can refresh their understanding, observe how emerging researchers engage with the material and contribute valuable insight. A calendar of upcoming RECR trainings can be found on the RECR SharePoint.

This new international arts exchange program drives economic growth by connecting U.S. creative professionals and technologists with international peers working at the intersection of the arts and emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI).

NEW! 2026 National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Equipment Grants Program – Letter of Intent

This program serves to increase access to shared-use special purpose equipment/instruments for fundamental and applied research for use in the food and agricultural sciences programs at institutions of higher education.

NEW! November 2026 NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program

Number of Internal Nominees:

This program serves to increase access to multi-user scientific and engineering instrumentation for research and research training in our nation’s institutions of higher education and not-for-profit scientific/engineering research organizations. We strongly encourage faculty to talk to their NSF program officer first to determine if the NSF Division will be receptive to an instrument request.

W. M. Keck Foundation Research Program – June 2027 Grant Cycle
Internal Proposal Due Date: Wednesday, Sept. 16 (extended)
Number of Internal Nominees: 3
This program seeks to benefit humanity by supporting basic science research projects that are distinctive and novel in their approach, question the prevailing paradigm or have the potential to break open new territory in their field.

Internal Funding Opportunities

Writing and Publishing (WRAP) Funding
This internal grant opportunity is designed to support faculty in “wrapping up” their single-authored or co-authored book projects and will help offset costs associated with the final stages of publication/production, when a book will soon appear in print or on digital platforms.

Team Building for Large, Collaborative Grants
These awards, intended for researchers with a track record of securing sponsored funding, aim to facilitate the development of collaborative research teams and support planning activities that enable the submission of a competitive research proposal to an external sponsor.
Deadline: Rolling

Faculty Bridge Funding Program
This program allows a minimal level of activity while a proven principal investigator awaits expected federal funding, e.g., to prevent loss of key postdoctoral researchers, research faculty/staff or senior graduate students or loss of research materials in the interim period.

External Funding Opportunities

National Aeronautics and Space Administration Enabling Exploration through Partnerships in Advanced Computing Request for Information (RFI) 2026
This RFI is designed to gather information from the community on potential approaches and capabilities that may inform future partnership strategies with American industry and academic institutions to address advanced computing gaps that are critical to NASA’s mission.

Harry Frank Guggenheim Distinguished Scholars
The Foundation welcomes proposals from any of the natural and social sciences and aligned disciplines that promise to increase understanding of the causes, manifestations and control of violence and aggression.

Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) Open Funding Opportunities
