Office of Research Social

The Office of Research will host a social on Friday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Lyman Hall, first floor lobby. Colleagues working on research and creative activities are invited to take a break and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks.

Upcoming Intramural Funding Deadlines

Writing and Publishing “WRAP” Funding
This internal grant opportunity is designed to support faculty in “wrapping up” their single-authored or co-authored book projects and will help offset costs associated with the final stages of publication/production, when a book will soon appear in print or on digital platforms.
Deadline: Friday, Feb. 27

Faculty Creative Activities and Research (FCAR) Grant Program
This program provides up to $5,000 for one-year projects to support new research and creative endeavors in the humanities, arts, social sciences and related fields and to increase high-quality scholarly output by faculty.
Deadline: Wednesday, March 18

Team Building for Large, Collaborative Grants
These awards, intended for researchers with a track record of securing sponsored funding, aim to facilitate the development of collaborative research teams and support planning activities that enable the submission of a competitive research proposal to an external sponsor.
Deadline: Rolling

Faculty Bridge Funding Program
This program allows a minimal level of activity while a proven principal investigator awaits expected federal funding, e.g., to prevent loss of key postdoctoral researchers, research faculty/staff or senior graduate students or loss of research materials in the interim period.

Upcoming Research Deadlines

CNY Humanities Corridor Seed Grants for 2026-27 Humanities Collaborations
Corridor seed grants support humanities collaborations across institutions and throughout upstate New York. Working Groups demonstrating a commitment to collaboration in the humanities, broadly conceived, can apply for up to $12,000.
Deadline: Monday, March 23

NEW! NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences Institutional Biomedical Undergraduate Research Training (BURT) Program (T34) – May 2026 Deadline – Letter of Intent

The BURT program intends to strengthen research training environments and develop a pool of well-trained students who complete their baccalaureate degrees in biomedically-related fields and transition into and complete biomedical, research-focused higher degree programs.

The ERFC program brings together world-class teams of scientists to perform energy-relevant basic research with a scope and complexity beyond what is possible in single-investigator or small-group awards.

NEW! 2026 NIH Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG) Program

The BIG Program supports acquisitions of scientific instruments that are justified by investigators’ needs to pursue their scientific projects in basic, translational or clinical fields.

NEW! 2027 Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences

This program supports assistant professors of outstanding promise in science relevant to the advancement of human health.

2026 William T. Grant Scholars Program – Pre-Proposal
Internal Pre-proposal Due Date:

1 per school or college
This program supports career development for promising early-career researchers. The program funds five-year research and mentoring plans that significantly expand researchers’ expertise in new disciplines, methods and content areas.

External Funding Opportunities

New York Public Library Short-Term Research Fellowships
These fellowships support scholars based outside the New York metropolitan area that are engaged in graduate-level, post-doctoral and independent research in the arts and humanities.
Deadline: Monday, March 23

NSF Pathways to Enable Secure Open-Source Ecosystems (PESOSE)
This program supports the translation of open-source science and engineering-focused research products into safe and sustainable ecosystems that address national and societal challenge.
Deadline: Tuesday, Sept. 1

Reminders

NIH SciENcv Requirement
SciENcv is mandatory for all applicants and awardees. The NIH SciENcv biosketch guide (.docx) for SU researchers has been updated this month to include troubleshooting and common issues.

NIH Research Security Training Requirement
Researchers must complete SU’s Research Security Training program before submitting an NIH proposal on or after May 25, 2026.

Researchers can use the Core Facilities webpage to browse the University’s collection of shared research infrastructure. Complete a brief survey to provide feedback that will guide future expansion and ensure the cores meet evolving research needs across campus.
