Ask the Expert Monthly Series

Do you have questions about intellectual property protection, regulatory compliance, or how to obtain market research? The ESD / NYSTAR sponsored Innovation Law Center’s expert team is hosting monthly Zoom sessions to discuss these and other issues relating to successful technology commercialization. They will be held on the second Thursday of each month. Who Does An Employee’s Work Belong To – Employee or Employer?

The Supreme Court heard Minerva Surgical Inc. v. Hologic Inc. on April 21. The Court will consider how to balance the rights of a company and inventors moving to different employers with regard to questioning the validity of patents. The Federal Circuit held that an inventor who assigned a patent cannot later contest the patent’s validity. To read more about this case, visit here.

USPTO Seeking Nominations for National Medal of Technology Innovation

The United States Patent and Trademark Office recently announced that they are seeking nominations for the 2021 National Medal of Technology and Innovation. The medal can be awarded to individuals, teams made up of up to four individuals, or companies including divisions of companies. Nominations are open by submitting an online form and letters of support, by July 30, 2021. To learn more, visit here.

CenterState CEO President Robert Simpson recently recognized the outstanding achievements of regional businesses and organization in five different categories. Funding and Incubation Opportunities

 

FuzeHub / Manufacturing Reimagined Grants

FuzeHub is offering grants of up to $10,000 each to support projects in which a New York State manufacturer participates in one of FuzeHub’s “Manufacturing Reimagined” workshops[CRS1]  or webinars and receives technical assistance from a NYSTAR Innovation Asset. Assets are the 70+ university-based or not-for-profit centers supported by Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology & Innovation (NYSTAR). They provide a broad range of capabilities and expertise in manufacturing competitiveness and emerging technologies. A list of potential partners is available by working with FuzeHub staff to help manufacturers identify the best-fit resource for their specific needs.

New York Forward Loan Fund

New York Forward Loan Fund (NYFLF) is a new economic recovery loan program aimed at supporting New York State small businesses, nonprofits and small landlords as they reopen after the COVID-19 outbreak and NYS on PAUSE. NYFLF is providing working capital loans so that small businesses, and nonprofits have access to credit as they reopen. To learn more about the funding,

Save the date for the upcoming New York State Innovation Summit on November 8 – 9, 2021. The event, which is hosted by FuzeHub and part of the NYSTAR annual meeting, is aimed at New York State startups, developers, manufacturers and businesses looking to showcase and discover new and emerging technologies that support innovation and drive business growth. The Summit will celebrate the state’s leadership in technology-fronted economic growth and feature expert speakers in biotechnology, energy information, artificial intelligence and many other industries.
