Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Focuses on the Needs of Postdoctoral Scholars 

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will now provide professional development, peer groups and skillset development opportunities to postdoctoral scholars, which will help the University recruit and support outstanding postdocs who advance the research and creative mission.

Upcoming Programs

Spring 2024 NEH Fellowship (and Beyond) Proposal Writing Circle
The writing circle is primarily designed to support faculty of all academic ranks planning to submit proposals for this year’s National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowship or Summer Stipend programs, though faculty interested in comparable fellowship programs are invited to participate.
Deadline: Jan. 8

Funding Support for Book Proposal Shortcut With Laura Portwood-Stacer
Scholars from any discipline/field with book projects in the pipeline are invited to submit a request for support to enroll in the Book Proposal Shortcut, to be held in January 2024 and led by Laura Portwood-Stacer of Manuscript Works, author of “The Book Proposal Book.”

2024 National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Program (S-STEM) – Letter of Intent
Internal Due Date: Dec. 18
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
The S-STEM program seeks to enable low-income students with academic ability, talent or potential to pursue successful careers in STEM fields.

2024 NSF Strengthening the Cyberinfrastructure Professionals Ecosystem – Letter of Intent
Internal Due Date: Dec. 18
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program offers researchers funding within the advanced cyberinfrastructure ecosystem for projects supporting equitable resources for cyberinfrastructure professionals.

2024 Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) New Innovator in Food & Agriculture Research Award – Letter of Intent
Internal Due Date: Jan. 8
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program supports promising scientists whose research addresses significant food and agriculture challenges and who have been in a tenure-track position no longer than three years.

2024 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Grants for Arts Projects
Internal Due Date: Jan. 16
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program supports public engagement with, and access to, various forms of excellent art across the nation, the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, learning in the arts at all stages of life and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life.

2024 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG) Program
Internal Due Date: Feb. 26
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program supports acquisitions of scientific instruments that are justified by investigators’ needs to pursue their scientific projects. The program requires three major users with NIH-funded research projects.

2024 Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Innovation Partnerships Program – Letter of Intent
Internal Due Date: Feb. 26
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
This program will provide up to $4,000 to support an event (in-person or virtual) involving participants from more than one ORAU member institution and focusing on the areas of climate and environment, health equity or the future of the STEM workforce.

Funding Opportunities

New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts Artist Fellowship 
This fellowship is a non-residential $8,000 unrestricted cash grant available to artists living in New York state and/or one of the Tribal Nations located therein. The following categories are eligible this year: fiction; folk/traditional arts; interdisciplinary work; painting; and video/film.
Deadline: Dec. 13

Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP)
DURIP is designed to improve the capabilities of universities to conduct research and to educate scientists and engineers in areas important to national defense by providing funds for the acquisition of research equipment or instrumentation.
Deadline: Feb. 16

NSF International Research Experiences for Students (IRES)
IRES projects engage a group of undergraduate and/or graduate students in active high-quality collaborative research, in principle at an international site with mentorship from international researchers.
Deadline: Feb. 5

NSF Virtual Grants Conference
The Fall 2023 NSF Virtual Grants Conference is designed to give new faculty, researchers and administrators key insights into a wide range of current issues at NSF. NSF program officers will provide up-to-date information about specific funding opportunities and answer attendee questions.

NSF Requirements: SciENcv
NSF is now only accepting biosketches and current and pending (other) support forms prepared using the SciENcv tool. Help guides are available to assist researchers with this transition.
