Federal Government Updates

Received a Request from a Federal Agency?
If you receive any request from a federal agency or from another entity requesting changes to your existing federal agency reward, please share that communication with your Office of Sponsored Program research administrator and your associate dean for research (ADR). This includes any changes to budget, scope of work or publicly facing project information for current awards, or requests for certification or verification of compliance with laws, regulations or executive orders. For pending awards, please consult your ADR if requests for changes go beyond the usual scope of the award process.

Tracking Federal Changes
The Office of Research and the Office of University Counsel have been working with our Federal Relations team to assess developments related to federal government grants and contracts and have created a SharePoint that will be updated with information as we receive it. Information about executive orders and regulatory guidance, FAQs and guidance from individual agencies are available.

The Role of Professional Societies in Advocating for Your Research Priorities
Faculty who participate in professional societies can help amplify the collective voice of their community and demonstrate widespread support for sustained investment in research. Many professional societies engage their members in advocating for their field’s priorities with Congress. If you participate in advocacy through your society, please inform the University’s Office of Government and Community Relations and follow the University Government Relations Policies. As federally funded awards are granted to the University, members of the University community should not advocate regarding specific federal awards to any elected officials.

Looking for U.S. Government Data?
Syracuse University Libraries has a research guide on preserving federal data. The guide includes links to information about various external efforts to preserve U.S. federal data.
