Improving the Food System

Anna Zoodsma works in the field at Salt City Harvest, a Syracuse-area farm.

As a volunteer for Salt City Harvest Farm, food studies graduate student Anna Zoodsma connects her love of the outdoors with her love of food. “As I learned more about things such as agroecology, seed sovereignty and farm worker experiences, I began to see how our whole world is connected through food.” Read Anna’s story.

Building a Sustainable Future

As a sport venue and event management graduate student, Yuqi (Ruby) Liu G’21 collaborated with the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Sports sustainability team—sustainability and athletic staff and student-athletes across the 15 ACC schools—to help Syracuse Athletics and the stadium become more sustainable. Virtual Field Experiences

A new pilot program for virtual field experiences allows social work students to engage with standardized patients to gain clinical skills, a teaching method long used by medical schools. Read more about field experiences.

Serving the Community

Marriage and family therapy students complete 500 direct client hours of therapy under the supervision of licensed marriage and family therapists. At the Couple and Family Therapy Center, a clinic that provides free therapy services to the community, 19 therapists provided 5,256 therapy sessions to 341 individuals in 2021. Research Ethics Training

Led by Falk College professor of public health Katherine McDonald (pictured) and Ariel Schwartz, assistant professor of occupational therapy at MGH Institute of Health Professions, a new research project aims to help individuals with developmental disabilities affecting cognition contribute fully to community-engaged research. Akane Hosoyamada ’15 is competing for Team Japan in her second trip to the Olympics. The exercise science alumna and former Syracuse Orange student-athlete first competed in the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Read Akane’s story.
