Office of Research Fall Social

The Office of Research will host a Fall Social on Friday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of Lyman Hall. Colleagues working on research and creative activities are invited to take a break and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks. 

 

New Leadership for Research Development

Vice President for Research Duncan Brown has selected a new leader for the Office of Research Development (ORD). As she assumes leadership of ORD, Chetna Chianese and the ORD team will support Syracuse University’s proposal, research and faculty development efforts. Apply to Join the 2024 NIH R-Series Proposal Writing Cohort

Planning to submit your first National Institutes of Health (NIH) R-series proposal in 2024? Apply for the 2023-2024 NIH R-series Proposal Writing Cohort and access professional training materials, research development assistance and a monthly cohort meeting to assist in the development, preparation, writing and submission of your first NIH grant proposal.
Deadline: Tuesday, Oct. 31

 

Internal Funding Opportunities

  • The CASE research collaboration grants, administered by Syracuse University’s Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE), are cost-sharing grants that support collaborative research between Syracuse University investigators and New York State for-profit companies. Focus areas include information systems, sensor networks, wireless communication, cybersecurity and related domains. The grants provide up to $50,000 in funding per year and are renewable for multi-year projects. 
  • The Lender Center for Social Justice internal grant program supports new or continuing research projects that address the racial wealth gap in the United States. Interdisciplinary and collaborative projects are encouraged. Awards may be $5,000 to $100,000.

NEW! 2024 Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent Due Date: Monday, Nov. 6
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. Nominees are normally expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2017.

NEW! W. M. Keck Foundation Science and Engineering Research Program – June 2024 Research Grants
Internal Proposal Due Date: Friday, Dec. 1
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The Keck Foundation supports pioneering science and engineering research and the development of promising new technologies and encourages high-risk projects that have the potential for transformative impact.

2023 Central New York Community Foundation Community Grant Program
Internal Proposal Due Date: Friday, Oct. 6
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
The Central New York Community Foundation seeks to fund innovative projects in the areas of arts and culture, civic affairs, education, health, human services and the environment.

2024 Moore Inventor Fellows Program
Internal Proposal Due Date: Monday, Oct. 16
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
This program supports outstanding early-stage inventors who harness science and technology solutions. Candidates must have received the terminal advanced degree in their field within the past 10 years.

2024 Brain Research Foundation Seed Grant Program – Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent Due Date: Monday, Oct. 16
Number of Internal Nominees: 1
This program provides startup monies for new research projects in the field of neuroscience that will likely lead to extramural funding.

2024 NSF Scholarships in STEM Network (S-STEM-Net)- Letter of Intent
Internal Letter of Intent Due Date: Monday, Oct. 16
Number of Internal Nominees: 1 (as a single institution, a subawardee or a member of a collaborative research project)
The primary goal of each S-STEM Research Hub is to support and carry out high-quality, innovative research on supporting and promoting the success of domestic, low-income STEM students.

2023 ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards
Internal Proposal Due Date: Monday, Nov. 6
Number of Internal Nominees: 2
This program provides seed money to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities. The program is restricted to full-time assistant professors who received a tenure-track appointment within the last two years.

National Science Foundation (NSF) Requirements: SciENcv

Beginning Monday, Oct. 23, NSF will only accept biosketches and current and pending (other) support forms prepared using the SciENcv tool. Researchers are encouraged to begin using the tool immediately. Help guides are available to assist researchers with this transition.
