Office of Research Summer Socials

The Office of Research will host its third Summer Social for this year on Friday, July 26, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Milton Atrium and Patio of the Life Sciences Complex. Colleagues working on research and creative activities are invited to take a break and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks.

New Internal Funding Program

Syracuse University Bridge Funding Program – 2024 Request for Applications
The purpose of this program is to allow a minimal level of activity while a proven principal investigator awaits expected federal funding, e.g., to prevent loss of key postdoctoral researchers, research faculty/staff or senior graduate students or loss of research materials in the interim period.
Deadline: Rolling 

 

OSP Expansion

OSP services are growing to include a sixth research administrator (RA), Erin Poole, who previously served as a budget analyst in the Department of Biology. Please visit the OSP website for updates on current OSP RA assignments for schools, colleges, departments and centers.

 

SOURCE Summer Research Symposium

Join SOURCE for a campus-wide poster session on Thursday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Panasci Lounge within Schine Student Center. The poster session will feature an in-depth look at student projects and facilitate engaging conversations about fascinating topics.

This program supports individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars and/or general audiences.

NEW! 2024-2025 Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics – Letter of Intent

This program is a is a career development award to enable early-career faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. 

NEW! 2024 NIH Enhancing Science, Technology, EnginEering, and Math Educational Diversity (ESTEEMED) Research Education Experiences (R25) – Letter of Intent

The overarching goal of this program is to support educational activities that encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, to pursue further studies or careers in research.

2025 Searle Scholars Program – Letter of Intent

This program supports the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment.

2024 NSF Inclusion Across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES) – Letter of Intent

Funding Opportunities

The Office of Research has updated its Sponsored Funding Opportunities webpage with federal, state and foundation funding opportunities relevant to campus in a variety of topic areas. Below are the highlighted opportunities:

Heising-Simons Foundation: Science Events and Gatherings
This program solicits proposals for support of meetings, research collaboration gatherings and other events related to astronomy, cosmology, fundamental physics, climate change science as well as increasing the representation and retention of underrepresented groups within these areas.
Deadline: Friday, Aug. 30

2025 Sloan Research Fellowships
This program supports fundamental research conducted by early-career scientists in chemistry, computer science, earth system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, physics or a related field.
Deadline: Sunday, Sept. 15

Sony Research Award Program
This program provides funding for cutting-edge academic research that could drive new technologies, industries and the future and helps build a collaborative relationship between faculty and Sony researchers.
Deadline: Sunday, Sept. 15

2025-26 Cornell Society for the Humanities Fellowship
Applicants must be working on topics related to the theme (scale) and their approach to the humanities should be broad enough to appeal across humanistic disciplines.
Deadline: Friday, Sept. 20

 

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Updates

Building Bridges Across NIH and the Broader Engineering Community Meeting
This in-person meeting aims to facilitate meaningful research connections by introducing extramural investigators to NIH resources and engineers, scientists and clinicians. The event will feature invited and abstract-driven talks, poster sessions, lab tours, panel discussions, a chance to meet Program Directors, networking opportunities and more. Register for the event.

Upcoming Changes to the Peer Review Framework
NIH is implementing a simplified framework for the peer review of the majority of competing research project grant applications, beginning with submissions with due dates of Jan. 25, 2025. NIH will continue to update its website with guidance for applicants on the new framework. Learn more.
